Perspective Requires Multiple Views

When you are told you need a new perspective how do you respond? Some of the definitions of perspective include the state of one’s ideas and a way of picturing something spatially. So, we hear statements like, “That’s your opinion, but I have a different perspective.” There in is the rub. We have a tendency to reduce others’ perspectives to opinions. Ask What Would Make the Impossible Possible

I encourage you to use the question, “What would make the impossible possible?” as a way to move your or others ideas forward when you encounter someone who is resistant. How often you heard someone respond to a solution or idea with, “That’s impossible! It won’t work!”

Why?

When someone says something is impossible, first calmly ask “Why do you say that?” in an attempt understand why they believe the way they do. Read the rest of this entry »
