Don’t Let Failure Stop You

We all experience failures. In business, just as in our personal life, what we do with the failures matters more than the actual failures.

Failure Is a Certainly

No matter how well we plan and execute, there are times when we will simply fail. Accept it and get on with the show. In other words, don’t let failure stop you. We all would rather experience success, but failure is a part of life. As Winston Churchill put it, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

Think About It

Look again at what Churchill said. We may experience successes, but life is dynamic and keeps on moving. Because of that, he is correct when he says success is not final. But how often do we not grasp the second part of his quote about failure not being fatal. When fail we can choose to be frozen and let failure be the final word or we can move forward. That is where the courage that Churchill spoke of comes into play.

Get Past It

In order that you don’t let failure stop you it is essential that you learn to ignore the naysayers who want to focus on the failure. Sometimes the most prominent of those naysayers is us. As long as we think negatively it will be that much more difficult to move on to success.

As Thomas Edison put it when asked about his so-called “failures” in developing the light bulb, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Now that’s a positive attitude. He may have missed his target the first time but he kept on aiming at his ultimate goal.

Goal

Learn from It

Do you really think that Edison didn’t realize that he had experienced failure? Of course he realized it. The point he was trying to make that he was able to turn what appeared to be a complete failure into success by learning from it. That way, as Churchill said, failure was not fatal. He fully understood the idea of don’t let failure stop you and lived it.
