Change and Adapt to Grow

Take some time to think about how you are now versus how you were 5, 10, 15 or more years ago. If you are like me you see someone very different. We all change and adapt to grow whether intentionally or not.

Wait, I’m the Same Person

Yes, you are the same person, but I can assure you that you do some things now that you probably would have never considered years ago. While the principles by which you conduct your life may be the same (and probably should be if they were sound), you almost certainly have made some fine tuning in how you understand them and apply them. Just like a child growing up and changing physically, the way we think and process information continues to develop continuously. Part of that is probably forced on us by others who challenge us. Ideally, though, we should be challenging ourselves by reading, learning new skills, exposing ourselves to new experiences, and challenging our thinking on a regular basis. I would hate to think that I still thought the same way I did 20 years ago. Consider that for a moment. What ways have you changed in your beliefs and practices over the years? How do you interact with others differently now? What things that once seemed important no longer are? Like it or not, people are thinkers and thinking changes us. While few of us would consider ourselves Einstein, we do ponder things and change and adapt to grow.

Embrace Change-It’s Good for You

Unless you’re dead you’re changing. So, embrace change. You have the power and choice to reject those things that don’t work, but at least consider alternatives. I’m not talking here about moral issues but rather how we think and process information and act on it. Of course, if you realize that morally you need to make some changes for the better, by all means do so.

Whatever you do, embrace change and adapt to grow.
