Business Thankfulness

As we approach another Thanksgiving, I want to pause from typical business thought and think about how we can demonstrate business thankfulness. A few years ago I wrote in Thankful or Worried? about the attitude we take. In essence I was touching on whether we were thankful or worried as to where we were in life. Now I want to confine that to business

What’s Good and Right?

Take a close look at your business. At first you may be distracted by the things that aren’t the way you want them, but look again. Try to identify the things that are good and right about your business. If your business is struggling, you may be asking, “Like what?”

Well, here are some thoughts. The business is still there. Do you have employees you value greatly? Where is the business compared to a year ago? Two years ago?

Now I recognize that the answer to any of these questions may not be good, but that’s not the point. The point is to find what is right and be grateful. The practice of business thankfulness is a way to limit your worry and give you a positive attitude toward the future.

What if the Business is Failing Miserably?

The truth of the matter is, there are some businesses that are on their last legs. If you find yourself in that boat it may be difficult to find something to be thankful about, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, even if the only thing you can think of is that a painful time may be coming to a close. Is this tough to do? You bet it is. Yet, any business thankfulness you can muster can get you through some difficult times and help point you in a new direction.
